Message from our Rector

Dear Friends,

This month our thoughts turn to warmer weather, holiday fun and all the summer events we can look forward to – picnics, barbecues, days out and long, lazy summer evenings. It is also a popular time for weddings, and we are looking forward to celebrating three weddings at St Mary’s Church, Rougham, this year.

I love the wedding season! The bells ring out joyfully to announce that there is something wonderful to celebrate and all those who hear them become part of the joy and celebration.
There is the special moment when rings are exchanged and vows are made. The rings, made from the most precious metals in the world, are the story of a couple’s love for each other, and a reminder of God’s unending love for us; and the confetti (biodegradable, of course!) settles on the church path like falling blossom and reminds  us of celebration, ‘party’ and happy times.
Marrying in church is personal, meaningful, spiritual and beautiful, just as you want it to be. A church is so much more than simply a venue for your wedding. Churches are special places and there are some things about a church wedding that you just can’t get anywhere else.
And after your wedding, you’ll realise that a church is more than simply a wedding venue. We’ll always be here for you as our Reader, Marcus Bateman, writes:
“The selection of a wedding venue is a meticulous process, reflecting how we cherish the  location, and memorise the event. Choosing to marry in one of the four historic churches, ranging from large  to small, offers distinct advantages:
• stunning locations and breath taking settings
• a place of history spanning thousands of years; the churches will endure, becoming timeless witnesses for a couple’s 50th anniversary;
• a unique, sacred place where, for hundreds of years, ordinary individuals have solemnly declared their marriage vows before God, family and friends; and
• ongoing support for each couple, from the Rector, Julia, and her team, emphasising a lasting, and personal connection.
The churches offer flexibility in the marriage ceremony, whether opting for an intimate affair or a lively celebration with all the bells and whistles, the churches provide a versatile backdrop.”

If you are wondering whether to marry in church, just ask! Couples are encouraged to contact Rev Julia for an informal conversation, and we will do all we can to make your wedding a truly memorable and meaningful experience.
See details of the Wedding Festival at Rougham Church on Sunday 21st July from 2.30pm – everyone  welcome.
Blessings, Julia
